Novo Nordisk is launching an authorised copy of Ozempic in South Africa on 27 July 2026 — the first authorised semaglutide copy registered by SAHPRA. It’s called Extensior. Unlike a generic, an authorised copy is made by Novo Nordisk itself using the identical active ingredient, manufacturing process, and pen device as Ozempic, just under a different name. Novo’s South African general manager confirmed to Reuters that Extensior will be cheaper than branded semaglutide for diabetes use, with full pricing confirmed closer to launch.
